The Songs
As an educational songwriter for over 25 years, I have had the privilege of witnessing the power of songs to not only teach, but to also heal.
The 21 songs have been written from a therapeutic point of view using language specifically geared towards helping individuals dealing with mental challenges.
When I began writing these songs with the help of Dr. Colleen Hood, my therapist and the author of the Be Your Best Self course offered at the St. Catharines General Hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario, I had no idea just how much they would benefit me over the next few years.
When I found myself challenged with the many issues related to depression (anxiety, discouragement, being unable to move forward, anger, etc.), I would turn to these songs, either listening to them or singing them out loud. Not only did they comfort me, but I found that the lyrics often held solutions to my problems. Even though I was the person who’d written most of the lyrics, in my times of need, they helped me see ways forward when I’d forgotten the path.
For those who like to sing, I’ve also included the band tracks (or karaoke versions), the guitar chords, as well as lyrics to all 21 songs.
